We were a quiet story,
written in fading ink,
whispers between the lines
that no one else could read.
A glance across the crowded dark,
a brush of hands,
a spark—
and then the silence grew louder
than anything we ever said.
You loved me like a secret,
carefully kept,
never quite spoken.
I loved you like a promise
made under breath—
something meant,
but never kept.
Time didn’t take you
all at once.
It peeled you back
like autumn leaves
from the arms of summer trees—
slow and cruel,
until I could no longer reach
the version of you
that once reached for me.
I still see your ghost
in the places we swore were ours—
in coffee cups gone cold,
in songs we never finished,
in the space beside me
where your warmth used to sleep.
And still,
I wouldn’t trade a second,
even if all it left me
was this ache,
this hollow room
echoing
with the sound of your name
that no longer belongs to me.
Some loves don’t end.
They just change shape—
from holding hands
to holding back tears,
from late night laughter
to mid-day silence.
We were beautiful.
We were real.
We were
a goodbye
pretending to be
a forever.
