The Game

Her eyes pulled me into

a darkened hall way -- They call

the game "Blind man's bluff",

where one wears a blind fold

and the others escape their grasp

in a narrow hallway,

no lights, no sound all except

the shuffling of feet.

-=-

She often wore the blindfold,

and when her turn came,

no matter how many times we played

I couldn't evade her.

She'd wrap her arms around me and

say Gotcha!

And for an instant, I would be right

where and what I most desired to be.

Her prisoner.

-=-

The game -- my fear of the dark

and the feelings I had for her

all scary, all beyond my

understanding.

-=-

I was 10, she was 12. In the

light of day I'd die inside when

she smiled and long to play the

game again and again.
