The Forest and The Thunder

The forest and the thunder fell in love

Each yearning from their domains

To know the other

Beyond the afternoon summer storms

Desperate branches reaching for

Distant clouds

But they only ever met over wildfires

When the thunder threw itself to ground

Damning the consequences,

A reckless moment to ignite

And burn the truth of them into the world.

In the end all that remains

Is charcoal and silence

And the feeling that this is not the kind of love to disappear with the rain

But the kind that knowingly gorges itself with reckless abandon

Content to consume each other in a cyclic attempt to be one

But thunder needs the sky

And the forest needs the soil

So they will meet with sacrificial violence

Over and over

Until they are no more.
