Slow and steady,

I walk on a pale path β€”

a pallid pasture.

*

I walk wearily,

my every step

echoing my groaning.

*

Sharp and brittle the bristles

that stick and sting

my soft and sallow skin.

*

They crunch as I cry β€”

mere remnants

of summers past.

*

Then, there!

in the distance.

a glimpse of gold!

*

The bright green of spring,

calls out with hope –-

no more is the cold of snow!
