The fire within
they tried to drown my spirit
with every tear i cried,
they never saw the fire
still burning deep inside.
they thought that i was broken,
a shadow on the floor,
but every time they hurt me
the flames burned even more.
i walked across their ashes
with blisters on my feet,
carrying all my failures
and every cruel defeat.
but somewhere in the darkness
a little spark survived,
it whispered through my heartbeat,
you’re wounded, but alive.
i fed it all my sadness,
i fed it every scar,
until my tiny fire
was brighter than a star.
now nothing stands above me,
no past can pull me in,
for i became the woman
who found the fire within.
and if the night surrounds me
with hands as cold as stone,
i’ll light my own tomorrow
and find my own way home.
