The Fallen Star

Fallen but nowhere to be found

The Fallen Star

I saw a star fall behind the hills,

it cracked the night with silver light,

its edges bent like old promises,

I tried to catch it but my hands were empty.

The wind carried whispers I could not hold,

and the darkness smelled of cold stone,

I watched the sky swallow what I desired,

while my chest throbbed with quiet longing.

I traced its path through the trembling clouds,

the echoes of fire scattered on my tongue,

I felt a grief that had no name,

yet the night seemed unwilling to end.

Every shadow pressed against my shoulders,

every tree leaned toward the ground in fear,

I wanted to reach the place it fell,

to lay my palm against the lost light.

I thought of wishes that never came true,

of hands that trembled, alone in the dark,

the star burned brighter in memory’s eye,

and still I waited for its return.
