The Fall

A beginning and a middle

One of our first photos

Love is seldom small.

It lies in corners, in walls.

You feel it when you walk into a room,

Its all-encompassing.

One hundred percent,

A hundred and one, equally me and equally you.

I felt it in that first moment

When I heard your laugh,

I felt in my bones,

In my lungs, in my head, on the surface of my skin and let it sink in.

I won’t say it was electric, or magical, or even sweet;

Akin to a romantic comedy.

But our story’s messy

It’s complicated, it’s hard.

And our love is in the meetings in between,

And sometimes in the dark.

I knew in that moment

That you were worth the wait,

And you were worth the hard.

I knew when I heard your voice

It didn’t have to be a spark.

You are my forever,

Your eyes are deep, endless,

A sky, an ocean blue.

I was told what to look for, what to want,

But I didn’t have to look very hard for you.

I don’t believe in love at first sight

But I believe in you

And I believe in me.

So, thank you for being there that day,

And making my world spin again.

Thank you for looking my direction,

For making my cheeks turn red,

And my heart beat far too fast.

I look forward to the ‘how we met’ rendition

Until the day we pass.
