The Eyes Look Sad, The Smile Is Cold

Has our love departed ?

The Eyes Look Sad, The Smile Is Cold

The eyes look sad, the smile is cold,

Though few would ever know,

The battles fought in silence

Beneath that careful show.

Each morning starts the same way,

A greeting worn with grace,

A practiced look presented

Upon a guarded face.

Friends see strength and confidence,

A person standing tall,

Never seeing hidden cracks

Beyond the outer wall.

Years before there was laughter

That seemed it would not end,

A heart that trusted fully,

A lover and a friend.

Promises were spoken,

Dreams were carefully planned,

Two futures built together

Like castles made of sand.

Then came the unexpected,

A sudden painful turn,

Leaving only questions

And lessons hard to learn.

The trust became a memory,

The closeness disappeared,

Replacing joy and certainty

With everything once feared.

Time continued moving,

The seasons came and went,

Yet traces of the old wounds

Remained where they were sent.

The smile still greets the world,

Though warmth is harder found,

Protecting fragile feelings

From those who gather round.

Many see the surface,

Assuming all is well,

Missing all the chapters

The eyes alone can tell.

Some nights bring reflection,

Memories returning clear,

Bringing both the happiness

And every fallen tear.

Yet deep beneath the sadness,

A quiet strength survives,

A determination guiding

The way that heart survives.

For pain may leave its shadows,

And trust may heal quite slow,

Though even wounded spirits

Can learn again to grow.

The eyes look sad, the smile is cold,

That much may still be true,

Yet hope remains a stubborn light

Breaking gently through.
