When someone makes you feel warm

You never want to let go

The coldness of the world outside them

Is no place to call home

There are people that choose you, and you have been chose

But that heat is not always safe

That fire that burns and burns

It’s impossible to use as an Escape.

But that Darkness is all you know

And a lantern in the sky

Is what draws you so close

To find that light in someone

The warmth and the glow

Is it the eyes?

Is it the throat?

The throat which those words come from

Those spoken words that hang

They hang in the air like fire and smoke

Spitting up flames soft as a stroke

Which one do you trust? Which one is a cloak?

The nightmares, or the feeling of being choked?

love poems
