The Empty Chair
To all it’s just a chair, yet it is more to me

The Empty Chair
There is an empty chair tonight,
That no one seems to notice there,
I see it every time I pass,
And think about who used to care.
We used to sit and talk for hours,
About the things we wanted most,
Now all I hear is silence there,
And memories of a vanished ghost.
The table still looks much the same,
The room has hardly changed at all,
But somehow everything feels strange,
Since you no longer make that call.
I sometimes catch myself expecting,
To hear your voice come through the door,
Then I remember you are gone,
And things are not the way before.
I wonder where you are tonight,
And if you ever think of me,
Do you remember those old days,
Or are they where they used to be?
I cannot move that empty chair,
It feels as though it belongs there,
Perhaps because some part of me,
Still hopes that you might soon appear.
The years may change the way I feel,
And time may soften what is gone,
But every time I see that chair,
I know some memories carry on.
So let it stay exactly there,
A little reminder of the past,
Some people leave your life one day,
But memories can always last.
