The Elm and the Chestnut

Love at first sight.

I was a Chestnut tree, growing in a cage

Branches curled in on themselves, resting with hidden rage

I could see sky blue when I looked out of my prison

One look from you freed me from that cold mechanism.

A touch of your hand, a brush of lips,

Bringing life to the flesh beneath your fingertips

Such a rush, a feeling of flying,

You kept me safe and away from dying.

You were an Elm tree growing tall and strong

In my eyes you could do no wrong

Branches and trunk scarred from where an axe once flew

Now entangled with someone who knows what you've been through .

An Elm and a Chestnut growing wild and free

All we have is time, what will we see?

It was love at first sight when you met me

Thank you for bringing me home and setting me free.
