The Education Blues
A Poem From My Past That Still Holds True
"You’ve got a good head on your shoulders
Maybe its time to think,
Enroll in school, get a real job
And finally lay off the drink."
It’s just that it feels to permanent a move
To pick a career from a hat.
Pay thousands of dollars and if I hate it,
Well, too bad, that’s that.
That might work fine for some,
But to me that’s a life worth of pay.
Or at least a generation of savings that
I just don't have today.
Now you can bring up credit,
But that won't work for me.
I've signed up under someone else’s rules
And they don’t think good times are free.
I’ve got a good head on my shoulders,
So why is that not enough?
Why does some guy who’s never met me in life
Take my money and recommend me for stuff?
Maybe because I’m just too young,
Maybe I haven’t seen the light.
But I’ve got a good head on my shoulders,
And at least I know what’s right.
So I don’t have a diploma,
I’m not licensed to do anything.
But I don’t need one to drink whiskey,
And I don’t need one to sing.
