The Eclipse That Is You

Surprised by love

By SharikaPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The waves crash against the rocks,

How my heart yearns for a strong touch.

Someone who shares my unspoken words,

Who need no direction on how to soothe my past hurts.

His mind will be open and his thirst for love strong,

Hopefully this time my heart won’t lead me wrong.

The sunlight breaks above the clouds

As a tiny voice whispers “mommy are you ready now”.

Her eyes are small and full of dreams.

She got herself ready, with shoes on the wrong feet.

With her hair a mess and her sunglasses on,

My Little Rock star keeps me strong.

I pick her up and she says with delight,

“The moon is gone now mommy, let’s bring on the light!”

By the elevator door we patiently wait,

My daughter in hand, I’m praying not to be late.

As the chim dings that the lift is here.

The door opens and all my thoughts disappear.

Your eyes lock mine and are filled with warmth,

You hold the door open and say “so you both don’t get hurt”.

My stomach is in knots as you compliment my hair,

And ask me how long have I been living here?

My daughter says three years and you give a little chuckle,

Gosh it looks sexy, how your eyes crinkle at the corners.

You ask where I’m headed, and I say, to her school.

You offer me your number and say “it’s comes with a game of pool”.

I laughed harder than I have in a while.

You looked at me proudly and said “I see where your daughter gets her smile”

We part ways with a hug, and on my shirt his cologne lingers.

Flash forward two years and now you’ve put a ring on my finger.

As we say I do, I’ll never forget.

The day that door opened to my soul mate and best friend.

About the Creator

I love writing, creating something out of nothing, the world is a canvas. Musically anything goes. I was the girl in high school in the corner with ear buds and notepad. Now I’m the women who dances to her own drum barefoot on shore.
