The Echoes At My Heels

My past demons, a cold embrace

The years started out both long and gray

As my wrong choices fade away.

I walk alone yet hear a sound,

A host of errors on the ground.

I keep my eyes locked straight ahead.

My hallow heart is filled with dread.

Now every word I left unsaid.

Follows me where my footsteps tread.

It mimicks every move I make

To see how much my soul can take.

If I turn back to see its face,

My past demands a cold embrace.

So down the path I quickly run

From all the things I should have done,

But right behind the shadow stays

And tracks me through the modern maze.
