The Dreaming Sentry
An Attempt at Trochiac Trimeter
Watching hard as he starts to nod,
Guarding realms from his cozy pod.
From the window, though half asleep,
Dreams of chases, deep in sleep.
Minutes crawl; he snores so low,
Eyes shut tight, misses the show.
Scattering dust, turkeys trot,
Chipmunks chatter within earshot.
Mourning doves coo, high on their perch,
Basking in the glow of nature’s church.
Windows rattle with a clink,
Eyes flick wide, he doesn't blink.
Scans the lawn, sees nothing, then
Shuts his eyes once again.
All is quiet, just as before,
Sighs and snoozes, starts to snore.

Really nicely done!
Lovely and well-wrought! How sweet must a dog's dreams be, eh?
