Humming in the kitchen, makin' something nice.

A little voice calls out no sugar, all spice:

"MOOOOOM! Sissy said she isn't going to eat her veggies!"

Put on my mama voice and call out to keep the peace.

"Don't worry, you know me, she will eat those greens."

"Yeah! Just like me! Unless they're peas."

"Don't worry, it's broccoli and cheese."

"I thought you were going to make bacon-wrapped asparagus?"

"I made that too, child, don't make a fuss."

"I don't like it," says the other with just a pout -

I am proud that she doesn't cry or shout.

"You liked them last time," I point out.

"I don't remember!"

I smile and nod and don't argue -

She's five, her memory is mostly fugue.

I make it fancy when I serve their food,

Making it fun makes them easier to fool. ^_~

"Take a bite! It's really good, Sis."

"It's not bad, I promise!"

A wrinkled nose and furrowed brow,

she shoves the broccoli in her mouth...

Her eyes light up in relief,

a smile covering eager, chomping teeth.

I walked away feeling so proud -

and laughed when she asked for a second round.
