Sometimes I wish I was oblivious,
totally clueless.
Walking through my life unawares.
Caring not for anything other than, what’s next.
Living a mundane life of narcissistic indulgence.
Then I’ll see an ad pushing this very thing,
or some person, some person truly sold on this very thing.
Living that life of superficial gratification.
And I’ll see the emptiness behind their eyes.
Living such a base life of pleasure, their humanity nearly gone.
A Jules Verne being of the future,
dumbed down to an animalistic creature barely
recognizable as a human.
This is when I realize the importance,
the necessity of a educated society. One that seeks out knowledge,
one that observes a more involved population.
A population that can still have a decent conversation
without looking at their phones.
It would seem that we’re headed the wrong way.
Less and less of us even enjoying nature.
Maybe Ted Kacynski had some valid concerns.
If we could just find the balance.
In this, it will by necessity be an individual pursuit.
One worth striving for.

Really just an amateur trying my hand at this.
