Fear can be crippling and debilitating

Possibly stopping you moving forward,

The reason why you’re not really living

And can make you break your word.

***

When we feel fear and let it control us

It keeps us locked inside our life’s “box”,

Too scared to try or be something new

The feelings that keep our doors locked.

***

There are times whereby I’ve hated my life

Turned up every day to my soulless job,

Stayed in an extremely toxic relationship

Letting my life stall and my joy be robbed.

***

At times too fearful to make any decisions

Then I found a book by Author, Susan Jeffers,

Called ‘Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway’

A set of instructions on life saving measures.

***

I learnt numerous techniques and lessons

On how to step outside my comfort zone,

As by doing so I found I’d learn and grow

Discovering I no longer feared being alone.

***

The biggest life lesson this revealed to me

Was to see my fear but remove it’s power,

To fully trust even when I’m in it’s grips

Decide to ‘feel the fear’ rather than cower.

***

This really is the true definition of courage

To feel truely scared but carry on anyway,

Moving forward I adopted this as my motto

Which open up infinite paths and doorways.

***

I found that once I learnt this important lesson

Life suddenly become exciting and fulfilling,

So acknowledge the fear as you move forward

And get to experience life if you are willing.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
