The Darkness
The streetlight flickers.
I hear footsteps behind me.
No one is there.
Shadows grow tall.
My breath tastes like fear.
The wind says things I don’t understand.
Every corner hides a face I cannot see.
The walls seem to lean closer, waiting.
My pulse drums louder than the night itself.
The ground beneath me feels like it swallow me.
I hear whispers that aren’t words.
The darkness curls around my ankles, pulling.
Every sound is sharper, closer, alive.
Will I ever see the morning again.
Or am I already swallowed by the dark.
The moon peeks once, then hides.
Even the stars look away.
I walk, street looks longer than it should.
Will anyone ever find me here.
Or will the night keep me forever.
