The Cycle

a poem

I bet the next one will be younger

young and naive enough to tolerate the everything about you

so the way you drink seems fun,

your recklessness exciting,

immature or inexperienced enough to manipulate easier than me.

I bet the next one will be 21 and clueless

clueless to the victim she's about to become

so the guessing of whether or not you'll show up for her is a game,

your anger at the world but not at her endearing,

until your temper inevitably turns on her too.

I bet there will always be a next one,

a next one and a next one and a next one,

swayed by your charm and misfortune as I once was,

unaware of your half-truths and venom,

and the problem will never be you.

Unfortunately very relatable. "clueless to the victim she's about to become" hurts in its cold honesty. What a poem!

This was very relatable! Love it.

This is rather frightening and true... Well done!
