The Cost

of Hindsight

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 12 months ago 1 min read
Noir Art

you linger softly in the haze of my memory

stirring the embers that once weeped for a flame

baring the oneness of our destines foreseen

gasping for affection and the taste of my name

you call out to me in the songs of the bluebird

like a moth to your flame I am haplessly drawn

unlucky am I to be caught up in so few words

no longer willing to escape this ride I am on

fighting my demons to relieve the moment

trading my soul for a chance to be lost

losing my mind without the strength to show for it

paying a penance still not knowing the cost

forever caught in a trap of my making

only to find it was free for the taking
