The Confessions of the Rose
A love so true yet going nowhere but to its death

The Confessions of the Rose
Sat there at the heart of thorns,
where love can hurt and hide,
I opened every part of me,
and let you step inside.
I wore my colours proudly,
I bloomed beneath your touch,
I never thought that loving you
could ever hurt this much.
Aware, aware, I saw the signs,
yet love was my belief,
until your thorns went deep enough
to penetrate with grief.
My petals once were burning red,
my leaves were wild and free,
but every promise that you broke
took something out of me.
I faded, faded day by day,
like flowers left alone,
still standing in the brightest light,
yet chilled right to the bone.
You thought because I did not speak,
I never felt the pain,
but roses have their memories,
they bloom through sun and rain.
I kept confessions in my stem,
and secrets in each thorn,
of every night I nearly died,
and every hopeful morn.
something stirred beneath my roots,
a strength I thought had gone,
for even when the petals fall,
the roots keep holding on.
Now I lie here in my grave,
where nothing more can hurt,
the roses bloom above my head,
their roots deep in the dirt.
For love arrived too late for me,
there’s nothing left to save,
no words can bring me back again,
just leave the roses on my grave.
