It's the quiet of fall

The poise of it all

It's stale leaves in the air

It's the local county fair

It's flannels and sweaters

And hot morning tea.

It's scary, it's spooky,

It's melancholy.

The air makes me think

Of something beyond.

What is it you're whispering?

Won't you respond?

It's a season of contemplation

Reflection, nostalgia.

The air seems to ask,

"If you could go back, wouldya?"

It's the coco,

cornmazes,

the after-rain hazes.

The crunch of the leaves,

and long shirt sleeves.

There are many things in this world

that make me feel safe inside

but none like you fall

or your bittersweet side.
