The City That Never Hears

A quiet heart in a loud, fast world

By TitlyPublished about a year ago • 1 min read
Some silence is painful, not all silence is peaceful.

Rise of skyscrapers, But no one sees the people falling—

Not from rooftops,

But from within.

With coffee in hand, Headphones in ears,

We pass each other like ghosts

in the land of deadlines and dreams. "How are you?"

Means nothing here.

It's just a phrase,

Thrown into the wind like yesterday’s news.

Rent’s due.

Time’s running.

Hope comes in tiny bursts—

A song on the radio,

Or a stranger’s half-smile

That disappears before you can say "thank you."

A picture is from home, Taped to a fridge that hums too loud at night.

The silence is thick,

And the lights from the skyline

Don't reach the dark corners of the soul.

We all came here chasing something—

Freedom, fortune,

Or just a chance to start over.

But somewhere in the chase,

We forgot how to rest.

How to feel.

How to be real.

In a city that never sleeps,

We’re all just tired hearts

Pretending to be awake.
