I'll hold you close to my chest,

My hand will cradle your head,

You need fear no harm,

My eyes are gentle, soft.

*

No fierce reaction will come from me,

I breathe calmly, in and out, in and out.

*

I'll rock you to and fro,

My warm embrace will fill the holes

Left by batterings untold.

Warm love will surround you.

*

No angry words, no muttered cuss,

Drowsy softness throughout the room, the home.

*

Lie in safety as I hum

A nonsense tune to soothe and heal

Reaching the scars from before,

Feeling them begin to erase.
