I put down my empty glass

and head back to the dance floor.

***

We’ve been dancing for hours

in the hot, sticky nightclub.

***

Sweaty bodies

pressed against each other.

***

Soft, slow melody starting to rise.

***

He’s standing next to me,

arms in the air.

***

Feet moving to the beat.

***

I’m still savouring that

sneaky kiss

we had at the bar.

***

Tempo building.

***

Eyes closed,

the sour taste of vodka

lingers in my mouth.

***

Rhythm escalating.

Strobe lighting hits my eyes.

***

Anticipation surging.

***

Breathless.

Music pumping.

Tension rising.

***

Waiting for the beat to drop,

I turn to him.

***

Looking into his

steely grey eyes,

I see a trickle of sweat

drip down his cheek.

***

I realise

we’re more than just

drinking and dancing.

***

This guy

might be

my safe place,

my missing piece.

***

The dance floor goes crazy

as the beat drops.
