The Birds Who Built a Heart
His home was full of love from that day forward

The Birds Who Built a Heart
Two crazy birds once built a heart
from flowers, stars and string,
one bird could talk the whole day long,
the other loved to sing.
They hung it from a golden chain
beneath the purple moon,
then filled it full of tiny bells
that played a crooked tune.
The pink bird brought the diamonds,
the small one brought the light,
and both would guard their precious heart
through every lonely night.
But then a jealous wind arrived,
wearing a coat of grey,
it shook their home with angry hands
and blew the stars away.
The flowers tumbled to the ground,
the golden chain hung bare,
the little bird began to cry,
“Our heart is no longer there.”
The pink bird found a broken twig
and placed it back above,
“A heart is not its pretty things,
a heart is made from love.”
They gathered every fallen bloom,
each jewel and broken thread,
then worked until the morning sun
rose golden overhead.
Their heart was slightly crooked now,
with gaps along one side,
but any lonely bird could enter
and find a home inside.
So if you hear strange tweeting
when the purple moon appears,
it is two birds inside their heart,
singing love above your fears.
