The Bigamist
He swore to each with to love forever and no one else

The Bigamist
He kept two rings in separate drawers
two smiles shaped for different laws
one wife wore pearls and raised the roast
the other danced and drank to ghosts
He said his vows with steady eyes
and never once let slip his lies
he marked his time in scent and lace
and moved between them like a face
reflected twice in water’s curve
each woman thought she had the nerve
to hold him fast or change his ways
not knowing they were both a phase
He bought the same bouquet for both
red roses, thorns, the ribbon’s oath
he whispered names in candlelight
too clever, thinking wrong was right
But secrets rot where silence grows
and truth is loud when no one knows
they met by chance or maybe fate
a wedding dress, a shared estate
The kitchen heard the first harsh word
a wine glass flew, a line was blurred
his picture torn from every frame
and neither one would speak his name
They let him go without a scene
no plea, no tears, no in-between
and somewhere now he walks alone
a man with two rings and no home
