I never needed golden rings or promises you made,
Just little acts of kindness when the sunlight starts to fade,
A hand to hold through troubled times, a heart that stays so true,
The best way to keep you mine is simply loving you.
No chains around your wrists, my love, no walls to keep you near,
Just laughter in the quiet times and comfort through each tear,
For love is not possession, and hearts should still be free,
The best way to keep you mine is letting you be you and me.
I’ll listen when your words are lost, I’ll stand beside your side,
I’ll never make you question if my love has ever died,
And when the world feels cold and cruel, I’ll shelter you from pain,
The best way to keep you mine is choosing you again.
So if you ever ask me how I keep your heart so true,
I’ll say I never tried to own the love I found in you,
I simply gave you all my heart and loved you through the years,
The best way to keep you mine is holding you, not fears.
