The Act of Running by Hayden Muhs
If you’re going to go for a run at night, dress in these
colors: YELLOW, YELLOW+GREEN, ORANGE, CYAN.
Wear reflectors.
Headlamps can announce to motorists, “I AM HERE, YOU
KNOW!” and that could save your life.
Getting a running buddy to come out with you
is always a good idea.
Take equal pride in running and in running safety.
! ! CAUTION ! ! Scary trucks will take every chance to rev at you.
Short shorts, not recommended.
Buddy system, buddy system, buddy system—I can’t stress this enough!
Even when you think you have the “right away,”
look both ways.
It’s best to be sure, even if it’s the law.
Carry glowsticks.
These can easily be stored in a fannypack and have many uses.
Use as flares to light up neighborhoods and roads for
safe travel.
Leave a better world behind you.
Pass them on to fellow runners you meet along the way
dressed in all black.
Stay hydrated.
Stay diligent.
Still, avoid HOT-PINK.
And when people tell you, it’s safer to run when the sun’s up, you tell
them you do. You tell them you never stop running, that’s what runners
do.
