The 7 Year Itch
Seven years sit heavy on the bed
your hand once close now far away
I hear the silence more than words
it grows between us every day
The laugh we shared has lost its sound
we speak of bills and nothing more
your eyes drift past me when I move
as if I never crossed your floor
I trace the sheets that used to burn
with heat that neither one could hide
now only creases mark the night
and empty turns from side to side
The itch is quiet, sharp and mean
it claws at trust, it shakes the core
it tells me love is never safe
it always hungers, always wants more
You turn the key inside your mind
lock me out and walk away
yet once you swore the world would fall
before your love would fade to gray
Seven years can taste like stone
hard to swallow, hard to keep
still I wonder if beneath the weight
the ember hides, alive, asleep
Or maybe this is how it ends
not with a fight but with a drift
two bodies side by side, apart
bound by silence, torn by rifts
