The 16th of When With No End in Sight

A story of lost love.

By Kiwani WilliamsPublished 3 years ago • 1 min read

“It never gets any more personal than the insertion of a baboon tree into the walls of the waterfall.” He writes to her.

She laughs aloud and it seems like every time she does, another piece of her past brushes off of her shoulder like sweeping a ton of rocks off the edge of a cliff with no ending in sight.

And the best part about it is, you never really look down. Because there is only one direction in which you’re willing to go, and it isn’t there.

But, holy cow just a few more rocks to go.

Freedom and liberation were his words of choice because he had known how much she’s strived for that since the day she was born. Or maybe it was the day that her parents split. Leaving her to believe that love was a myth and white knights existed in movies and fairy tales? Well, who in the hell has time for those?

But the best thing, and the worst thing about it was; he did. And she knew it. But really she didn’t, because what was there exactly to know? And the short neglect and static hesitation were only because that was what there was to become accustomed to in the life that had to be lived.

And he was no saint. She knew that too.

That’s why she wanted him. But would never allow herself to have him. And…

life goes on.

Birds will fly south when the winter comes around and lions will feast on their prey and people will go to work and there will be backed-up traffic on 95 and….

we will continue to call the ones up that we can’t stand, and spend the night with them only hoping to get closer to the ones that we can.

Because goddamn love is a powerful thing.

But when they don’t love you back, you fill the void the best way you know how.

That's just the way it goes.
