That's Not Amore

By Timothy E JonesPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

OK Moon, I've been delaying this for long enough;

But there is something that we must clear the air about.

It's been years ago you promised me love under a full moon;

You know like in those old Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin songs.

Apparently, you don't do that sh-tuff for people like me;

just those overly paid lounge snak--, err, lizards.

I even went to one of those sketch artist psychics,

I think you already know what I'm talking about.

They drew the perfect girl for me, fair skin, looked beautiful --

she truly would have made me happy the rest of my days. Sigh.

I did see her under a full moon, all bright and beautiful.

She said “yes I'll marry you” – to the woman she was with.

There was another, a girl I already knew, we were friends --

I showed interest in her – our friendship came to a fiery end.

Why do you do this sh-tuff to me? What did I ever do to you?

Why do I even bother? You're not making things better, you know!

That's it. We're through. You promise me love, then take it away.

I grow weary of your empty promises. That's not amore.
