Tether

Adventuring without leaving home.

Tethered to reality’s shore

By threads of love and safety,

Spun from the sizzling smells

Of love and nourishment,

Sounds of the seasons,

And the crackling warmth of fire,

I cast off into oceans of

Worlds unknown.

Surrounded by ghosts,

I dive into the dark water.

In the depths of the new ocean,

Trees stretch toward the surface,

Always reaching but never finding.

Cities overflow with people,

Loving, and living, and hiding.

I seek the buried treasure

Of secrets and lies,

New ideas and old ones.

Always searching and finding,

Never reaching for the tether,

But safe in the knowledge of its existence.

Great story comes from great characters. Whether I'm writing science fiction, fantasy, mystery or some combination thereof, I'm looking for a quirky character to drive the story.
