Teenage Love

I learned all I know from you

Teenage Love

The first time that I noticed you,

The world around me seemed to slow.

A simple smile upon your face,

Created feelings I didn’t know.

I searched for reasons to walk by,

Pretending I had things to do.

Yet every path somehow would lead

To another chance of seeing you.

The smallest words became important,

A message sent late in the day.

I’d read it over many times,

Never wanting it to fade away.

Friends would laugh and call it love,

I would deny it with a grin.

Though deep inside I knew the truth,

You had already settled in.

We spoke of dreams and future plans,

Of places we both hoped to see.

The world felt wide and full of promise,

As long as you were there with me.

There were moments filled with doubt,

Misunderstandings now and then.

Yet one kind word could heal the hurt,

And bring us close once more again.

Young hearts often believe forever,

Without concern for passing years.

They love with all the strength they have,

Untouched by caution or old fears.

Time may carry us different ways,

And change the lives we choose to live.

Yet first love leaves a lasting mark,

One memory life cannot outgive.

The songs we shared still bring you back,

The places too, though years have passed.

Some loves are written in the heart,

Long after their moment has passed.

I sometimes wonder where you are,

And if you think of those days too.

A chapter closed by time itself,

Yet forever coloured by you.
