the water, it eats our feet

october

here,

is different

life and renewal

rain, yes

but not the slow, slicing

rain that turns to

crisp mornings

no

it is unforgiving

punishing rain

giving birth

to lush green

mornings

sunbaked

afternoons

and

the godlike rage

of the tropics

in the evening

air so thick

smog clears

breath catches

heavy chest

sweat runs

tempers flare

eyes close

now

sitting water

stench

rotting corpse

washed unclean

the water

it eats our feet

abandoned

outside of

the silver city

brushed clean

by those

going home

to lofted

belongings

above the flood

and i

in suburban bliss

inconvenienced

at worst

predicted

thunderstorms

tonight.
