me thinks we blink

and then, it's gone

excessive drink

to move us on

we've leaky glands and kitchen sinks

scrolling the phone to numb the think

conversations on the brink

no substance here, she smiles and winks

when trouble calls

we hear her speak

we put up walls

to block the heat

we trip and fall

on dirty feet

till it's exposed on TMZ

*

me thinks we shrink

to get along

we all lip sync

the same old song

round and round and round

we sink

naked and proud

in shades of pink

all shapes all kinds

will one day stink

as life declines

breaking the link

*

me thinks the ink

has all run dry

I can't conceive

the reasons why

it took so long for us to see

that we are more than black and white

one plus one plus one is three

here's one more chance to get it right

so take my hand and stand with me

be gentle not in that good night

*

me thinks

it's time to take us back

time to believe

we're back on track

more front porch swings

and chewing the fat

it's little things

mathing the math

nothing as important as these

a deep cleansing, a healing bath

till once again we're squeaky clean

living happy off the beaten path
