Taking Direction

The Compass points North,

Towards the cool fresh Water,

Washing away fears.

The Compass points South,

Towards the dancing Fire light,

Aiming for courage.

The Compass points East,

Towards the Earth rising high,

Anchoring the lost.

The Compass points West,

Towards the clear singing Winds,

Willing us freedom.

Foot Note: The elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water, have long been associated with the primary directions on a Compass: North, South, East and West, as well as a particular human quality.

While the individual element and quality associated with the different directions changes with hemisphere or belief system, the lore still consists of the same fundamentals. A direction, an element and a quality.

I chose to represent Strength, Courage, Self-awareness and Self-expression, all very separate elements of an individual that make the whole. Even when they appear at first to be the same.
