Villanelle
Bang Bang. Content Warning.
Introduction This sculpture is frighteningly powerful. I used the whole sculpture for a pantoum which you can read here. But this particular shot (no pun intended) set off another idea for a poem based on the Nancy Sinatra song "Bang, Bang" and the statue. It has to be a villanelle this time.

feeling chained to my mother
When I try to talk calmly all she does is yell. When I yell back she yells at me for yelling. Every time I have plans she squashes them and tells me I can’t do them. When I don’t have any plans, she tries to make it stay that way. The only reason I have a life if because I leave without asking, and though it gets me in trouble it’s the best decision I make everyday. I’m not going to have a parent forever so she needs to back off and let me learn for myself.
