T'was the Night of the First Christmas

T'was some time before Christmas,

a young girl was chosen,

to be the mother of Jesus,

whose birth prophets had long ago spoken.

Sometime thereafter a good man named Joseph

deliberated on the best course to be chosen.

His fiancé was pregnant, which was a scandal normally

But in a dream, he was told to keep his wife-to-be

And that the child within her would be the world's savior.

T'was some time before Christmas and all through Israel-land

Each person returned to where their families began,

following a decree from Roman Emperor Agustus,

that each person be registered there for a census.

This good man named Joseph, as King David's descendant

journeyed to Bethlehem with his intended.

While there came the day when the child should be on the way

Delivering in a stable because there was no other place to stay.

A manger, the first bed for the world's eternal king

Good news of great joy to all people He brings,

but for that first Christmas night

a select few were celebrating.

To be part of this event, one so significant,

Angels invited local shepherds to see

peace on earth and of what they sing

about good will to men and Gloria in excelsis.

A great star even guided wise men from foreign lands

bearing their worship and gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense.

T'was that night, that first Christmas, the world finally received

true love, hope, joy, forgiveness and peace.
