T'was the night before school

The trials of an autistic/ADHD parent

T'was the night before school and all through the house,

the taps of Mum's keyboard whilst she swears at the mouse.

An email must be crafted with precision and care

In hopes that SEN Support might appear there.

The Children were not asleep in their beds

but moaning for spoons of Nutella instead.

Dad is tapping the buttons and gaming

Mum is still typing and silently raging.

When out on the decking a cat started crying,

Mum leapt from her chair, sending another cat flying

'Will I ever finish this email?' she cried

Looking at the screen and dying a little inside.

'It's taken me months to actually write

It's five paragraphs of unbrindled ADHD delight'

And so she hit send, and is dreading the dawning

Reception opens at eight and she knows they'll be calling,

But at least tonight in triumph she rests

Knowing today that she did try her best.
