Think of all there is to do,

On this wonderful spring day.

Think of all the things to see,

All of it, a blink away.

Like maybe on my way to school.

Even when I’m walking home.

Chances are I’ll talk to a friend.

Likely maybe more than one.

Instead of History or French or,

Playing baseball with the gang

Sliding safely into second.

Even catching long fly balls,

Or running home when we’re beckoned.

For today we’ll all discuss eclipses.

Taking place at noon.

How fortunate to be home for lunch,

Ever watchful of the sun and moon.

Seems to me a stroke of luck,

Unlikely planned by science guys, that

Now the sun is 400 times farther,

Out in space than the moon.

By standard measuring devices,

Surely it’s also so amazing,

Certainly the moon is 400 times,

Under the very size of the sun.

Rare fortune for us here on earth that,

Eclipses even work and are such great fun.

Darn clouds though, filling up the sky . . .

But maybe we’ll be lucky

Yet.

‘Cause the weather report says there’s

Little chance of rain -

Only blue skies for the rest of the day.

Unless, of course, they're wrong . . . again!

Darn clouds “they only block the sun”.

Yes, just like Joni Mitchell says.

Sent just to “rain on everyone”.

Kind of hoped blue skies would stay.

I may not get another chance.

Eclipses don’t happen every day.

So the next time I’d even get a glance

The date would be too far away.

Oh well, maybe soon we’ll see the sun,

Dancing into a patch of blue . . .

Aaaagghhh, the rain has just begun.

Yes, I’ll need to live to 92!!!
