sunflowers taste like honeydew air

and belly laughs like orange drops

where tangerine sunrise turn burnt umber eyes

into the elegance of dancing manatees

because I watched giant gray potatoes

pirouette through silken tides

and the water turned to mauve sunsets to match

the beauty of their unexpected grace

his smile feels like love that blankets stars

in chrome and silver that feels like white Christmas lights

looking through the tree from beneath

catching the smile in eyes that lock feeling in position

the ocean is variegated greens where the everglades

taste like nerves coming up for air and

I wonder if that is what it's like to feel alive

where alligator black shines through endless water

friendship fills like Thanksgiving dinner

burning hope into reality

tracing intricate venation with the comfort of

cool pillows and warm quilted words
