empty, your chair sits in silence

the scent of you near faded away

you've lended your wisdom and guidance

the dues you accrued have been paid

the room feels void of your presence

though the sweetest of memories remain

I know that you are here beside us

but clearly, it isn’t the same

time has been carved in a tombstone

down where the sweet lilacs grew

I guess deep inside I’ve always known

just who and what I was to you

everything I needed, I had it

love stitched integrally into my fabric

all of my good and bad habits

I carry with me as my baggage

my teardrops long for your embrace

though I’ll have to wait awhile to get my chance

your fingerprints remain on my face

and my heart is forever there in your hands

my journey is here, but my heart is there

and though it may take me awhile

nothing on this earth will ever compare

until the day I once again see you smile
