Being More Than They Expected

we were whispers, unspoken

just collateral damage

caught up in the moment

emotionally disadvantaged

set up for the fall out

at another's discretion

terminally blacked out

damage too great to mention

but we grew from the lesson

took those knocks to the bank

shot like a smith and wesson

filled the fuel in the tank

learned the dance of a fighter

and the grace of a saint

became the flint and ignitor

with strength that comes from restraint

hold yourself like a boxer

keep your hands in their place

you've got to be your own doctor

protecting more than your face

keep your spirit on lock down

your self esteem as your guard

though everyone loves a clown

being the punchline is hard

so, love yourself, cause you're worthy

love yourself, at all cost

cause at the end of this journey

it can't afford to be lost
