Sunset Sonnet

My long lost summer love

Where would we be now if nothing had changed

Cold frost on the grass is slowly melting

The newness of love will not be the same

Now the sun's out, and the heat sweltering

Your memory haunts my heart like a ghost

Once long brown hair is most likely silver

Our youth I want back; what I crave the most

When the sunset makes my body shiver

There you are darlin' with hands toasty warm

Rubbing my back and pulling me closer

Keeping me safe from the strong July storm

This is where I must keep my composure

I'm no longer here, like waves in the sea

Until our next summer, please wait for me
