Sunset is The Happiest Colour

a poem

By Ella ValentinePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I feel your body next to me

Smoking next to me

Vaping lightly next to me

And I love that you love violet skies like me

Summer violet blue

Forever.

A pale violet, almost blue or almost pink -

the colour of bold dreams.

We drove by the coastline before sunset

drank margaritas during

and made love after -

sunset is the happiest colour.

May our eyes always stay level to the skyline

and never miss a sunset.

I measure time by days I’ve spent away from you

holding on to memories of our laughter at the Sky Bar in Tulum,

watching the sky go dark violet in Malibu and how tightly you held my hand at dinner in Costa Rica.

My impatience for more memories of us

and my obsession with the foreverness of moments I really liked

are keeping me up tonight, ready to erupt:

Can it always be sunset when we kiss?

I'll be up early to rise though of course

to make you a pot of coffee and find the courage to say:

I'm yours if you'll have me

but regardless, you're mine.
