Sunflower Pepsi
A poetic heavenly birthday tribute to my mother

Woke up this morning and my soul found the time to feed.
Ruby Lee left Diet Pepsi and sunflower seeds.
Her favorite snack. Me and sisters wouldn’t delay the snack.
The greatest gift she ever left. Don’t ever think I could pay it back.
Every night after dinner she made us read the books.
Along with peanuts and Pepsi. Never a seedless crook.
She was a reader herself. Every dinner cooked was her feeding her health.
Music reverberated and incense lit. She was just being herself.
She kept a garden where every sunflower grows.
A free spirited traveler inside her soul where power flows.
She left me prayers at night. Whether it’s day or it’s night.
She took flight during life’s fights. What a beautiful sight.
She never lost touch. Effected the room with her smile.
She had style watched by a child with a mother worth while.
She is my mother. Even in death I’m grateful for what she left me.
A gift of memories of love, sunflower seeds and Diet Pepsi.
~Happy Heavenly birthday to my mother Ruby Lee Spencer.
