Summers Day

May 2020. Companion to Ode to the Simple

Should I compare thee to a summers day?

No, I shouldn't.

Summers are too hot these days,

With beaches full and ice cream melted,

And chips stolen .

-

I would compare you to the autumn.

The last golden rays of sunshine in cloudless skies.

Where the larks soar above the fields,

And the trees become a symphony of colour,

And the frost and wood smoke is tangible in the air.

-

I would compare thee to an autumn day

Because you, like them

Are a gift.
