summer love

(poison)

summer love
Photo by Oliver Hale on Unsplash

you only come around

to remind me

of the hunger in heart

because i claim

i do not need anything

or anyone

at all.

that’s how you know

i need you

most of all.

i crave you like sugar

because you slide down my

tongue and tickle

my insides.

nobody has heard me laugh

like you have.

you remind me of summer

of strawberries and sunshine

that fade away with harsh rays

and air that cannot be breathed.

it is sweet

until my hunger

consumes me

because I have clamped my mouth

shut

and a tiny taste of you

is enough to

eat me alive.

i am a little girl

whose stomach aches

in a field of poison fruit

and burning sun rays.
